Want to learn the secrets of painting head and shoulder paintings of HORSES? Learn how to take the best reference
photos, which angles and light are the best, how to create soft, life-like eyes, realistic highlights, and create
the horse’s tack.
Supplies: ENLARGED 8 x 10 photos of the head of the horse you wish to paint on computer paper.
Acrylic or Gouache (I use Turner) paint: Burnt Sienna, Cerulean Blue, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White,
Burnt Umber, Ivory Black, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red. Small bottle of acrylic retarder, small spray
bottle of water, paper towels, disposable palette, basic series of sizes 1-8 nylon brushes, palette knife to mix
paints, 2-3 various size canvases-your choice such as 8 x 10, 11 x 14 or 12 x 12, container to hold
water, plastic trash bag.
Optional: Easel or table top easel.
