corgi and baby goat

September has always had that “back to school” feel to it no matter what your age or the last time you headed off to school!  We hope everyone has settled in for their fall schedules and that life in general is good!

Our baby goats Taffy and Hershy are growing at an unbelievable rate. They zip around the pasture like little electrical charges on adrenalin and sprint up the ladder to the goat platform and back down (8 feet in the air) at an alarming rate.  At full out throttle, they combine the zip and zap with speed and bounce making it difficult to capture this on a video. But I'll try! The dogs all keep a wary distance from mom but are far more interested in grain handouts than the babies.
Our small pony Shadow is now recovering from a bout with founder and I am in the process of getting a grazing muzzle for her. Never used one before but there's a first time for everything!  Hmm, wonder if they can drink water with it?

Even if school is not in your picture, Fall always brings about that level of excitement of shows and deadlines and the adjustment to the shorter days that come with it.  This first week for us promises to be wonderfully cool, which I have long discovered, raises my energy level. We have spent a lot of years in the south and we love it. But I have never forgotten my first summer in eastern NC and swore then that I would NEVER complain about a cold day again!  :-)

What’s New in the Art Studio
Steve’s 100 paintings in a 100 days  art project is going strong! Remember, each little 4 x 6 oil sold in this project benefits Danny and Ron's rescue!  Sign up for his special blog and join him on his unique journey. He does have several collectors who email him just as he posts the paintings so jump on them quick! If you go to the upper right hand corner of his blog you can view the available paintings and skip over the sold ones.

Our second studio at the Cotton Company in downtown historic Wake Forest keeps me busy.  It is a good mix of gallery and convenience for our portrait clients.   A complete series of our portraits are displayed in the studio and are open to the public 7 days a week . I don't have to be in the studio for you to view the artwork.  The second Friday of each month is Art After Hours and it's a great opportunity to experience downtown Wake Forest and all it has to offer on those evenings. Refreshments for children and adults from 6-9 pm everywhere!  The Cotton Company did a short informal video of me describing our portraits.  Ok, yes,  I am sort of dorky in it, and the lighting was less than flattering, but oh well, it still has some good information about portraits in there!

Oil Painting Pig Old Spot
Steve's Pig Paintings
Last week Steve and I drove downeast to Clinton NC in rural Sampson County to an artist's reception.  The evening reception was held in a lovely restored turn of the century home that now holds the area's  Arts Council.  The subject matter for the show was Pigs. And pigs were everywhere in every form, every medium and in every configuration!  Now those of you following Steve's 100 Paintings blog know that the pigs sell quickly. So he created a couple of oils that were larger versions of the little paintings. One of them was selected for the 2010 calendar that will be coming out featuring the winning pigs of the show. As art receptions go, this one was informal and downright fun. A young man supplied amazing piano background ambiance and we enjoyed a relaxed evening and a wonderful buffet of pigs in a blanket, roast pork loin and barbeque.

Back home we actually sauntered out again the next evening for an Arts Council gathering in Wake Forest. Despite the steady drizzle, we were well protected by a huge tent and it was just a short dash to the safety of the wrap around Victorian porch.  The kind home owner provided her historic home, two ladies supplied the flutes and the Arts group supplied an impressive culinary spread.

Steve likes to remind me on such20occasions that he does take me out. Twice in one week is a recent record I think. :-)

She is forgetting that I took her out to dinner Sunday...see gas station of the month below....her choice.

Christmas Club and Layaway

We never forget that it's our clients who keep us in business! Art IS our business! So when a couple of clients asked us about having a layaway plan in preparation for the Christmas Holidays, we  thought it was a great idea! Let us know if your portrait or art painting is something you want for a Holiday gift and if you want to make simple, no interest payments up through the week before Christmas! We certainly accept all the charge cards as well as Paypal and regular checks work too! Actually the Christmas Club was originally a bank idea and Layaway has become popular again in all the retail stores. If you would like to have us work out a plan for you, just ask!

Barn Gas Station of the Month

If you are traveling through North Carolina, coming down I-85 or US 1 from Virginia, and you get a hankerin for some good old chicken gizzards and livers, you are in luck. Just get off at the Rt 39 exit of the US 1 bypass  and stop at the BP station there. Gizzards and livers, potate wedges and those other chicken parts, legs wings etc. are deepfried and waiting for you. Grab a can of grape or orange soda and life is good. At least your dogs will like you when you get home.
Due to its location, we recommend stopping by for lunch. Forget weekend nights.
