Musings

We hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend and took a moment to ponder the real meaning of this American Day!
We returned from 2 weeks in  New York to some much warmer weather here in NC. Thunderstorms, where we were, come down the Hudson River Valley like something out of Star Wars on several afternoons. Pretty incredible.
The Saratoga racetrack is located in Saratoga Springs and is a beautifully historic place of race tracks, a huge grandstand and many, many slate roofed stables. The many Victorian mansions are all restored or have been kept up through the years and the downtown is a delightful mixture of every imaginable kind of high end store with bakeries, coffee shops, tack shops, restaurants, galleries….too many to mention…..just a lot of fun!
Rosie, our Corgi, went with us. Somehow, in the days before we left, she discovered a way to escape the two acre “dog yard.”  Unable to find the escape route and leaving all the other animals in the care of my daughter, Amy, I tossed dog, ex-pen, crate and bowls into the van and took her with us.  Unlike many shows, St. Clements has a strict leash law on the show grounds for a dog. They are $150.00 worth of serious and so the ex-pen came in handy. Rosie stayed under the table at times, the end of her nose barely showing and occasionally investigating a sandled foot. That was pretty funny a few times. But of course, all horse people gravitate towards a little, seemingly pathetic looking dog so she had plenty of admirers to walk her.

Note:  Saint Clement might be the patron saint of rain, at least in Saratoga Springs, NY

What’s New
Well, we’re off to the Upperville Colt and Horse Show in Virginia from June 2-10. Then Steve will go on to Keswick. I have several large oils that can’t be transported too easily and I will return to the studio to work and complete one or two. As always, our schedules are easy to check on our website.  Steve will be painting on site, as last year, and has some paintings of Upperville ready to display.

To find out more often what we are up to, both Steve and I have created BLOGS . It’s an easy way to see how artists work day to day, what we are starting, completing or working on and in general, a type of working journal. Check them out!

This Month's Laugh

This month's laugh is gone. It said that it was too late in the month to try and be funny and that it will be back in June.

INTERSECTION OF THE MONTH

The Crossing

The St Clement's Saratoga Horse Show is at the Saratoga Racetrack.. but the showgrounds themselves are separate and across Union St. from the track.  With most of the barns on the track side, horses have to cross Union to get to the show and back. Crossing guards are posted to stop traffic. While a number of race horses cross every morning to exercise at the Oklahoma track, the horse show has horses crossing all day.  It's sort of like kids getting on a school bus,  as one horse is just about all the way across, another one shows up, etc etc
