Musings

Boy, we have cut it close for our December newsletter!  So close that our Christmas cards this year turned out to be electronic and we have a lovely card for you to enjoy. Take a peek.

We also want to thank each and every one of you for a great year! It's a good time to stop in the middle of all the hustle and count your blessings!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Christmas! What a great time of year!
One of my Christmas TV rituals is to watch the “White Christmas” classic with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. I love it! I also try to find a version of the “Scrooge” classic because I love that story too. Ever see the Muppet Christmas Carol?  Even that was a really nice rendition of the classic!  This time of year I want entertainment! You know the type. Heartwarming, warm and fuzzy, partial tear jerker.

AND I am DONE with Christmas shopping! (I do not think that Steve is)Yes, it is amazing, almost miraculous!  We have  completed all the Christmas portraits and the New Year portraits  are ready to complete (or in some cases, start)

Now as a footnote, we just did get the tree up. The temperatures here in NC were on the frosty side and my teenage son and I drove the old Honda on a very cold day further into the countryside and bought a tree. We did not cut it down this year. Going into the woods and cutting down a cedar tree one year cured us I think.
It was interesting enough to put it on the roof of the car (no luggage rack) and get it home.
Once at home, the 5 excited dogs began to give the tree the once over. The male dogs can present a  challenge.  Our Corgi, Rosie, feels it is her job to herd excited dogs into groups and she will literally snap her teeth at their back legs until, in exasperation, the chocolate lab, Chandler and  the pointer, Gizmo, turn on her and give chase. Although familiar with Corgis, I never lived with one. Napoleon complex comes to mind and that will be another story.
With relative ease however, we carried the tree through the milling dogs, sawed off the proverbial “sealed bottom” , set it in it’s base (is it straight?) and managed to shove it through the sliding patio doors into the house.

The large green mass set up near her cage alarmed Brandy. She is a yellow fronted Amazon parrot who can pierce the sound barrier with her shrieks. (interesting when one is on the telephone). Within seconds she plopped onto the undecorated tree (they don’t fly-just plop) and  it took my son a few minutes to extract her from the bowels of the tree. My concern was her bowels. But things went well and we managed to set up a tree without any mishaps.

I have this personal belief that if the tree goes up too soon, it becomes a piece of the furniture. People walk right by it. But if you wait until a couple of days or weeks before Christmas, the tree retains its magic. Who hasn’t turned off all the lights and just gazed at the lighted tree in the darkness while listening to softly playing Christmas music? Did you know that if you squint your eyes until the lighted tree is fuzzy, the lights will appear as stars and also appear to dance?  MERRY CHRISTMAS!
