Musings
Steve and I just returned from a small Art show in Beach Haven, New Jersey. We combined it with a family trip and visited Steve's folks on Long Beach Island. There is a big difference between homes at the beach in the north and homes at the beach in the south. The homes in the north don't have air conditioning. The down side to that was pretty obvious. Lugging one's own personal fan around and trying to shake the afternoon lethargy that heat instills, was an effort in personal will. The up side was that as we adjusted, we became aware of the outside sounds of children playing, neighbors chatting and best of all, the sounds of the ocean! Ain't life grand? |

We were at some shows of course prior to our beach reprieve
Charlottesville, VA Blowing Rock, NC After the Keswick Summer Show, at the Old Keswick Hunt near Charlottesville, VA, Steve found himself in the beautiful NC mountains at the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show where he spent time at ringside creating his plein air oils. His large, 18" x 36" oil of the rings and grandstand, (LINK) was auctioned off for a fund raiser and will be the 2007 poster. One of Steve's paintings of the Show Grounds at Warrenton, VA will be used on the cover of the prize list for the Warrenton Horse Show, to be held this Labor Day weekend. To know more about his paintings, FAQ, and to order one, visit his gallery page. |

In addition to his plein air paintings of the shows, Steve has a number of larger studio paintings
Raleigh, NC I was at the Regional 4-H shows in Raleigh while Steve was cooling it in the mountains. These shows are pretty interesting with everything from Roping horses to Hunters to Walking horses. The kids literally come from everywhere in the southeast.. Somewhere, there is a place in Heaven for the parents and grandparents of those 4-H participants! Somehow, they manage to keep their sanity after incredible treks with horses, tack, kids and coolers. |

Although I was unable to attend the 50th anniversary event of the Connemara Society the first week of August in Virginia, I understand it was a huge success! I created this 18" x 24" oil painting for the event. At first I was going to create a collage of the breed in various disciplines but then I decided that it was better to emphasize the land and terrain from where this elegant and sturdy breed came! Many thanks to Irish photographer Tony Rodgers who kindly gave me permission to use parts of his photo in the creation of this painting. The painting found a new home with Connemara breeder, Denise Hill in Creedmoor, NC. |

This Month's Laugh Need a fun moment? It's been awhile since something was really so funny that I laughed until I cried! So listen to this. Close your eyes and just picture what the caller is watching...it's even better than a video clip! It's a phone call from a man in |

Completed works see at shows OK, as promised, here is the completed version of the large 48 x 52 oil (LINK) that many of you saw me creating while at the Upperville shows this past June. Four year old Bella Royal rode her trusty pony, Corky in her first fox hunt last fall with the Red Mountain Hunt (NC) Her mom had snapped a few digitals and she and I later took a few closer shots of the subjects as well as a few more photos of favorite hounds from the Hunt kennels. We hope everyone has a safe and Happy Labor Day! Look for us next at the Warrenton and Middleburg shows (our schedule)
