Musings

Here it is, mid April, and we are enjoying a gorgeous day!
Hard to believe that just the day before, it SNOWED! Everyone everywhere has the same odd story to tell so don’t feel that you are alone in  a separate eco-system .  The only thing I hated to see was the fast demise of all the blooms from the fruit trees.
So, with coffee in hand, Steve tried to relax under the large sycamore tree but all 5 dogs converged around him in delight, nudging, and slobbering , elbowing each other out of the way.  I spent a lot of years around dogs and  in doing so, feel that I am fairly knowledgeable about the temperament of different breeds. But I never knew that Corgis were so NEEDY. I inherited Rosie from a client who now has a “normal” dog. This one is a little dynamo! She is not content to sit in your lap. No, she has to burrow and creep and wriggle up your chest where she can then seriously examine your eyes, ears, nose…..and she drives the big male dogs nuts. Jealous and  possessive to the point of lunacy , she has to be first in line, first at the food bowls, first to grab the ball. It is pretty funny to watch something so little run circles around the big dogs. For the most part they humor Rosie, but the old female dog made it very clear from the start that SHE was here first.
And if you see us all together at one of the horse shows, do NOT bring out any form of laser light or YOU will be taking the little princess home! J

What’s New
We will be heading to Virginia and New York during April and May.  Check our schedules to see where else we will be.

For those of you familiar with Triangle Horse Sports, in Raleigh NC, we have been asked to set up a display during their Grand Opening on April 28. Their new place is HUGE and carries everything you could possibly need or want for all horse disciplines.  Other vendors and suppliers will be there as well so keep your fingers crossed for nice weather!

While we’re on the topic of new things, has anyone ever use those fly predators?  I understand the concept of natural, earth friendly  means of controlling bugs in your garden or manure pile, but I want to know if these things really work!

This Month's Laugh
A client sent this to me and since I have been on the topic of dogs, all I have to say is that NONE of mine display this cleverness....or maybe I have just missed it?  Watch and enjoy!.....click on the image to the left.

BARN WOODS OF THE MONTH

Steve found himself in Aiken, SC several times recently and he was captivated by the beautiful Hitchcock Woods where........ I was back in Aiken to paint at the Aiken Horse Show in the Woods. If your not familiar with Aiken, The Hitchcock Woods is a 2100 acre forest preserve in the middle of Aiken. Closed to bicycles and motorized vehicles,  the woods has 65 miles of trails and old, sandy roads, open to equestrians, hikers, dog walkers, joggers, and horses with carriages.  There are also designated hunt trails with fences for equestrians. In the middle are the showgrounds, where every spring the Aiken Horse Show is held. The Hitchcock Woods is owned and maintained by the Hitchcock Foundation

Askew Taylor Paints
Raleigh, NC
Art links

Many people ask us about ART materials, books , etc. There are some wonderful online stores where virtually anything you would love to work with, can be bought. The following are a couple of the sites that we order from:www.jerrysartarama.com and www.dickblick.com

If you are in the Raleigh NC area, we have to mention Askew Taylor Paints, on Glennwood Ave. Currently owned by Kirk Taylor, "Askew's" has what you are looking for, somewhere in the store. Since they have been in the same building for generations,  you can find all sorts of things that you weren't even looking for. A classic art supply store, not a supermarket with paint and paper.

Another really cool site for those of you who would like to sculpt with polymer clay on a small scale such as dolls, fairies, figures, etc, visit Regina Edmunds site at  www.whitegothic.com
And for the woodworkers, there is Chris Pye’s site where you can sign up for a monthly newsletter at www.chrispye-woodcarving.com
